 Leonardo's Basement offers unique birthday party experiences for children 6-16 years of age. The party can either be held at our workshop or a location of your choosing and typically lasts 1.5 hours. During that time guests design and build creative art, science or technology projects that they take home.
How It Works
We strive to provide the most exciting, meaningful and appropriate hands-on experience for the birthday child and their guests that we can. We accomplish this by customizing the building activity after speaking with birthday children and their parents. We ask about their interests and ideas for the party, talk about the guests they will be inviting, and discuss possible project activities. Themes include invention, woodworking, recycled sculpture, painting, jewelry or toy making, electricity, chemistry, rockets or any other idea that results in an imaginative building project.
Each workshop session is designed to be appropriate for the participants' age and skill level. Once a project has been selected we schedule an appropriate instructor to guide the experience. Leonardo's Basement also provides helium balloons for each guest, including a bouquet for the birthday child.
Your Choices
You can either come to our workshop in south Minneapolis or we will come to you. If you come to our shop children will have access to more tools and building materials. If we visit your location we will need a classroom-sized space or larger with room for tools and materials plus workspace on tables or floors.
Most building sessions are designed for 1.5 hours. One and two-hour sessions are also available. Saturday afternoon is the preferred time for birthday parties but we will try to accommodate requests for other days and times.
 Cost
The cost includes instructors and materials for each child to build and take a project home. Most parties can be conducted at a cost of $25 per child unless extraordinary materials are required. We can accommodate any size group. The minimum charge is $125. We do not provide food.
